Essex Windsurfing Club

Our club has been around for some time and is run by an enthusiastic
bunch who are on the water at every opportunity....

Some of our members were around and sailing when the sport first took hold in the eighties (as demonstrated by this young man in the pic, Lanzarote 89 I believe) and still sail come rain or shine.

Windsurfing is by nature an individual sport, you against the elements and that’s why we love it, but windsurfing in this area could be put in jeopardy by the demise of EWC.

EWC was originally formed as an opposition to the Southend council of the time, who wanted to ban windsurfing completely in Southend. Through these negotiations, windsurfing survived and the three designated sites…. Shoebury East Beach, Thorpe Bay and Chalkwell were obtained, which we still benefit from today.

EWC still represents the interest of all local windsurfers today, by liaising with the Council, Foreshore, Lifeguard and any other official connected with the sport of windsurfing. EWC is the only windsurfing club in Southend.

The rigging green at Chalkwell is leased from the council for use by EWC members.

All new members are very welcome....
